BUFFALO, NY – Redshirt sophomore Kourtney Brown was named the MAC East Player of the Week for the second time this season as she came off a pair of dominating performances this past week. Brown had 31 points against Ball State, the first 30-point game by a UB player in nearly six years.
Brown averaged 25.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks for the week as she picked up her eighth and ninth 20-point games of the season, second in the MAC. Brown began the week with 20 points and eight rebounds against Toledo, while also recording two blocks. That performance was just a preview of things to come though as she had a record-setting performance against Ball State.
Brown scored a career-high 31 points, while also recording 11 rebounds and four blocks, which tied her career high. Brown became the first UB player to score 30 points in a game since February 19, 2003 when Kate McMeeken-Ruscoe did so against Ohio. Brown went 13-of-17 from the field against the Cardinals, scoring half of the team’s points in the game.
The Solon, OH native currently leads the Bulls in scoring (16.4), rebounding (7.3) and blocked shots (38). She also leads the team in field goal percentage at 56.8 percent. That total is second in the conference and 16th in the nation. This is the second time that Brown has been named the MAC East Player of the Week. The first came in early December following her performance at the East Carolina Lady Pirate Invitational.
Brown and the Bulls will be back in action on Wednesday night as they travel to Eastern Michigan. Tip off with the Eagles is set for 7:00 pm.
