NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma women's basketball team will hold its third annual Pack the Place Pink Day presented by outreach.ou.edu to help raise breast cancer awareness on Saturday, Feb. 21.
Join Coach Coale and the Sooners in supporting the fight against breast cancer by coming to the Lloyd Noble Center to see No. 2 OU take on No. 5 Baylor. Pink T-shirts will be placed in every seat of the Lloyd Noble Center for fans to wear in support of the cause.
This year's Pack the Place Pink Day carries added meaning with the passing of former North Carolina State head women's basketball coach Kay Yow on January 24, 2009.
Yow, a founding member and past president of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 and passed away last month after her third bout with the disease.
Launched in 2007 in conjunction with the WBCA Pink Zone initiative, formerly known as "Think Pink", Pack the Place Pink Day has become one of the most anticipated and emotional events of the year for the women's basketball program.
Last year, a LNC women's basketball record 12,168 fans saw Oklahoma come from behind to defeat defending Big 12 Co-Champion Texas A&M for Coach Coale's 250th career victory. Over the last two years, OU has raised more than $16,000 for breast cancer research.
Coach Coale and the Sooners are asking you to Pack the Place Pink once again this Saturday as they take on the Bears.
Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Auction
As part of the WBCA Pink Zone initiative, the OU women's basketball program, in cooperation with CBS College Sports, is auctioning off several commemorative and game-used items to help promote breast cancer awareness.
All proceeds generated by the auction will be donated to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund. Bidding ends on Friday, Feb. 27, one week following the game.
