SYNCHRONIZED SWIMMING: Mahoney Named USSS National Team Director Sandra Mahoney of Ridgefield, Conn., has joined the national office staff of United States Synchronized Swimming in the role of National Team Director.
Indianapolis, Ind. – Sandra Mahoney of Ridgefield, Conn., has joined the national office staff of United States Synchronized Swimming in the role of National Team Director. Mahoney brings over 30 years of experience in the sport of synchronized swimming as an athlete, coach and judge. For the past 14 years, she has served as the head coach of the New Canaan YMCA Aquianas and has spent the past nine years as the New Canaan YMCA Director of Synchronized Swimming.
Mahoney began coaching on the national level in 2000 as a Junior National Team assistant coach. In 2002, she served as the assistant coach for National Team II and became the head coach in 2004. Mahoney was named the Junior National Team head coach in 2005 and also served as the Figures Coach for the 2008 Junior World Team.
"Sandra brings a wealth of experience to her new position," said Executive Director, Terry Harper. "Her experience on our Board of Directors, as a National Team coach, as a former National Team athlete, and as a member of our International Relations Committee gives her a thorough understanding of how the National Team program, and the organization as a whole, work. I am confident that she will keep the program headed in the right direction, and assure that our athletes have a great experience as members of our team.”
Mahoney is a CCP Level 4 Certified Coach and a Level 5 Judge. She swam at the Ohio State University and graduated Cum Laude with a BA in Communication. She continued her education at the University of Connecticut, obtaining her MA in Sport Management with a focus in Sport Psychology.
