Kalemba Honored With ECAC Player and Goaltender of the Year Awards Junior Zane Kalemba continued his award-winning March as the goaltender was named both the ECAC Hockey Player and Goaltender of the Year on Tuesday.
Junior Zane Kalemba continued his award-winning March as the goaltender was named both the ECAC Hockey Player and Goaltender of the Year on Tuesday. Both awards will be presented to Kalemba on Thursday night at the ECAC Awards Banquet in Albany.
Kalemba becomes the second straight Tiger to win the ECAC Player of the Award, following senior teammate Lee Jubinville, who claimed the award in 2008. This year the award goes to Kalemba who has set team records for wins, goals-against average and save percentage this season.
He also led all goaltenders in the league in conference goals against and save percentage, and his numbers led the nation in both categories up until last weekend. He now ranks third in both categories. Kalemba was 22-8 in the Tiger net this season with a 1.69 goals-against average and a .936 save percentage.
In addition to becoming Princeton’s second ever ECAC Player of the Year, Kalemba becomes Princeton’s first Ken Dryden Award winner as the league’s Goaltender of the Year. He was also named a first-team All-ECAC making him the first Princeton goalie to ever receive All-ECAC distinction.
Junior defenseman Jody Pederson also received recognition as a third-team selection. Pederson leads all Tiger defensemen with 19 points on five goals and 14 assists. His +11 rating also ranks third on the team.
Princeton also was awarded the Turfer Trophy for the second season in a row. The trophy is awarded to the league team that best represents sportsmanship, tenacity, commitment and innovation, as voted upon by the league’s coaches.
