Bay Shore Yacht Club, the Great South Bay YRA and the US Sailing Race Management Committee are sponsoring a one-day Race Management Seminar on April 18, 2009 from 0800-1730 at the Bay Shore YC Club House, West Shore Drive, Bay Shore, New York, 11706.
Bill Kirkpatrick will be the lead instructor. Bill is a US Sailing National Race Officer, recognized Senior Race Officer, Area B Race Officer and YRA of LIS Race Management Committee chair. Among the recent events for which he has served as Principal Race Officer are: the US Sunfish Trials for the 2007 PanAm Games, the 2007 J/109 East Coast Championship, the 2008 US Sailing/Rolex U.S. Singlehanded Championship Finals and the 2008 US Sailing/Rolex Championship of Champions. He is an experienced seminar leader, and he will be assisted by Linda Kirkpatrick, a US Sailing Club Race Officer and experienced seminar instructor.
The seminar will cover Race Committee objectives, competition formats, sailing instructions, RC jobs, RC equipment, race-day preparations, setting the course, starts, finishing, post-race RC responsibilities and scoring.
At the seminar you will need your own copy of The Racing Rules of Sailing [2009-2012] (“RRS”). The complete set of seminar participant material, including the study questions used to prepare for the seminar, is on the US Sailing web site (http://www.ussailing.org/racemgt/Race_Officer_Prog/course_materials.asp). Please bring your completed study questions to the seminar.
The Club Race Officer certification test, which is given at the conclusion of the seminar, is optional.
The seminar fee ($40.00 for US Sailing members and $70.00 for non-members) includes continental breakfast, lunch and all workshop materials. To register, return the attached registration as directed on the form.
