Tim Burke (Paul Smiths, NY) led Team USA in today’s 10K Sprint at the E.ON IBU World Cup in Antholz-Anterselva, Italy. Posting a time of 25:41.9 (0+2), Burke was just 1:04 back from Fredrick Lindstrom (SWE) winning today’s Sprint with a time of 24:37.9 and clean shooting, Evgeniy Garanichev (RUS) was 2nd with a time of 24:56.1 and clean shooting, while Marin Fourcade (FRA) took third with a time of 24:57.0, and clean shooting at the range.
Burke was in the top three until missing the last two shots in standing. He made up six places in the last loop to finish 12th and qualify tomorrow's Mass Start.
“I am very happy with the race today but of course I would like those two last shots back,” said Burke. “ I felt great on the course today, so that allowed me to stay up there even with a few mistakes. Now I am looking forward to my first mass start of the year tomorrow!”
Jay Hakkinen (Kasilof, AK) shot clean and finished 22nd with a time of 26:03.7, Lowell Bailey (Lake Placid, NY) shot 0+2, finishing 36th at 26:27.7, and Russell Currier (Stockholm, ,ME) shot 1+1 and finished 43rd, posting 26:45.7.
As a team the men were 5th today, and Bailey's 15th World Ranking gets him into the Mass Start tomorrow along with Burke. Burke is currently ranked 30th. Extended results from today's 10K Sprint are available here

Team USA Biathlon Competition Concludes at Youth Olympic Games with Mixed Relay
Team USA’s Biathlon squad is competing in the first ever cross-country & biathlon mixed relay tomorrow at the Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck, Austria. One boy and one girl from each sport will form a four person relay team. Racing begins at 7am (EST).
